Put on your pajamas, brush your teeth, and settle in for half an hour of reading before bed.

Okay, those readings are for the five-and-under crowd, and unlikely to include passages from Carrie Snyder's oevre. But at the present, they're the only upcoming appearances Carrie's got slated.

Most recently, Carrie went to Bluffton, Ohio to take part in the Mennonite Literary Conference, which was held at beautiful Bluffton College over the course of several cool, rainy days at the end of October, 2006. Carrie, kids, and husband rose (some of them grumpily) at 4:30 AM on a Friday morning to arrive in time for lunch. Later that afternoon, Carrie read from new work—and not while wearing pajamas—with others of her religious/cultural heritage (let the debate rage on as to which it is). Attending as many of the readings as possible was hugely inspiring, as were the conversations generated by papers and discussions.

The whole family was generously, beatifically hosted by the parents of Carrie's very first best friend (Carrie lived in Bluffton from age five till age nine).

To quote Stephanie Pyle, a poet and one of the readers at the Conference: "If only every weekend could be so invigorating ..."
